This means that you can run the same mission 20 times in a row, and you'll never know which enemies are where. The game uses a system called a Spawn Director, which determines where, how, and which enemies will spawn at any given point and time, including elite enemies and boss spawns (aside from the fixed story bosses in some missions). Enemies are numerous and come from multiple directions, so even when I was being heavily carried by a more experienced friend, I was still able to get plenty of kills and save his ass a couple of times. This is pretty much impossible in Vermintide 2. Many co-op games have this problem, where if one player is significantly better, you'll feel like you're just trying to catch up to them and not really doing much else. But the thing that surprised me the most about the co-op is that I never felt like I wasn't contributing. Sure they sometimes do stupid things like wander off a cliff in the middle of a boss fight, but in most cases they're actually useful, and will save you far more often than you save them. I'm actually surprised at how useful the bots are. If there are fewer than 4 players, the others will be bots. Conserve your ammo for when it's important. Or you can for about 30 seconds, and then you'll run out of bullets/arrows. Ammo is relatively scarce though, so you can't really go around guns blazing. While melee combat takes priority, there are also ranged weapons in the game, and they are important because you need to be aware of your surroundings to be able to kill special enemies that can wreck you if you don't react quick enough. Though Vermintide 2 has less parkour, and more blocking. The closest comparison is probably Dying Light, which has similar melee combat. You need to be observant, time your actions, and react quickly.
These mechanics intertwine beautifully to create a satisfying experience that rewards skill and timing. The basics are simple: you've got light attacks, heavy attacks, blocking, pushing, and dodging. 1 class for each character is available from the start, while the other two are unlocked at levels 7 and 12 (max level is 30). There are 5 characters, each with 3 classes that have unique abilities and weapons. The missions involve completing objectives to slow them down and throw a wrench in their plans. Rat-men called Skaven are invading, and they've allied themselves with the Rotblood Tribe, which are Northlanders that worship Nurgle, the Chaos God of disease and decay. The game is very light on story, it's just there to provide context for what you're doing. You don't really need to know anything about the Warhammer universe or the first Vermintide. I came back to it recently and I'm really amazed at how good it is. I actually bought this game on release over a year ago, but played only about a dozen hours before getting distracted by other games.
